SEMAT has proposed Essence as a standard and it is expected to within short become an OMG standard. The standard supports the team to measure progress and health along several dimensions in a project. This idea has since several years been demonstrated in practice using physical cards. Now, the cards have become “electronic” and you can play several practical “games” when progressing your project. The Alpha State Explorer app runs on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch and can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

Non-profit organization SEMAT Inc. established

Another important step in the history of SEMAT has been taken: SEMAT has been set up as the non-profit organization SEMAT Inc.! See here for evidence from the Florida Department of State, where the corporation is located. Initial Officers are: June Sung Park, President of SEMAT Inc./ Professor, KAIST; Cecile Preraire, Treasurer of SEMAT Inc. / Professor, CMU@SV; Paul McMahon, Secretary of SEMAT Inc. / President, PEM Systems.

Communications of the ACM has just published a new article by Ivar Jacobson, Ian Spence and Pan-Wei Ng titled “Agile and SEMAT — Perfect Partners”. New Academic Signatory: University of Twente

Spanish SEMAT tutorial summary available

The summary of a tutorial on SEMAT held in Armenia during the Eight Colombian Computing Conference last August is now available as PDF file.

Journal of Open Research Software publishes article on SEMAT tool

An article by Daniel Graziotin and Pekka Abrahamsson about the tool “SEMAT Accelerator” (SematAcc) has been published in volume 1 of the Journal of Open Research Software. SematAcc is a Web-positioning tool for a software engineering endeavor, which implements the SEMAT’s Essence kernel. The tool enables the teaching, adoption, and research of Essence in controlled experiments and case studies.
